Giftwrap orders are ready for pickup beginning Friday, November 1st through Wednesday, November 6th. Due to space issues at Martha Jones, it would be very much appreciated if all orders are picked up no later than Wednesday, 11/6. (Those orders not picked up between these dates will be brought back to Jan Power's garage, and scheduled pickup times will need to be arranged.) Please contact Pam Farrell, Carolann McCarthy, or Jan Power with any questions.
Congratulations and thank you to everyone who participated in this significant fundraiser. This year we were able to raise over $6,000.00 for the Martha Jones PTO!

Halloween Party
A big thank you to Maureen Clancy, Denise Nagle and Laura Riley for their outstanding job planning and running the Halloween party. It was spooktacular!

The next session will be starting up on December 1st. Watch for registration packets in mid-November. The current session is well underway with over 80 students participating. Also, if anyone is interested in teaching a new mini-course, please call Denise Singleton.

Copying Volunteers Needed.
We are still in need of a few people to help with photocopying. Please call Jennifer Kinnear to volunteer.

Cultural Enrichment Programs in full swing!
The CE programs are off and running and in the last two weeks we have had a flurry of activity. The fifth graders were the first to receive a program about the properties of water that was presented by Steve Lechner of Scienceworks.
This week the South Shore Science Center completed the guided fall nature walks by the pond. Each class was divided in half and a naturalist discussed the changing vegetation while hiking around the pond.
Next week Elizabeth McKim will begin poetry classes with grades 2,3,4, and 5. She will focus on defining, creating, and reading poetry. She will return for follow up programs in January and March.
On November 18th K-5 will experience Boston Dance Collective when it presents Falling for Dance; which is a program that creates dance from falling, sports, sign language, martial arts, and newspapers. This program offers an entertaining introduction to dance, dancers, and choreography.
Watch future Leaps and Bounds for more information about upcoming programs.

Update on New Elementary Report Cards
The Report Card Committee is developing a new set of Report Cards for Westwood Grades K-5 and is interested in parental feedback regarding the current Report Cards. The Westwood Public Schools Home Page contains a link under District News: "Elementary Report Card." The link includes copies of the current elementary Report Cards and selected questions for you to answer. Later in the school year we will seek feedback on drafts of the new Report Cards.
Members of the Westwood Schools staff are revising the report cards for grades K-5. The new Report Card will include the student's academic performance, effort, and social development based upon updated grade level standards and expectations.
We encourage parental feedback. Please review the Report Cards at the web site and use the email link to respond in writing.

Early Release Wednesdays
Please be sure to note the four consecutive early release Wednesdays in November. Dismissal on Wednesday, November 26th, the day before Thanksgiving, will be even earlier at 12:05 P.M. Lunch will not be served on that day. As on early release Wednesdays, there will not be a separate Kindergarten bus. Kindergarten students who ride will be transported to their AM bus stops and those who walk will walk home.
