Dear Parents, Guardians, and Students,

Welcome to the 2003-04 school year and the third year of the elementary K-5 configuration.  Sixteen new enrollees have joined us this summer making our school population a total of 331 students as of this date.  Student numbers vary at each grade level: 50 in Kindergarten, 63 in grade 1, 45 in grade 2, 69 in grade 3, 55 in grade 4, and 49 in grade 5.   During the summer months exterior and interior work have taken place.  New copper gutters gleam in the sun.  Front entrances have been improved as well as the parking lot and circular driveway entrances.  In four classrooms heating and ventilation units have been replaced, and permanent walls with additional electrical outlets have replaced folding room dividers.  Two classrooms have also been carpeted.  Texts and supplies continue to arrive as do eager staff members ready to begin planning for another exciting Sheehan School experience.

When you receive a copy of our school handbook, the information will describe how our Core Values, Philosophy, and Mission guide the staff in meeting the academic, social, and emotional needs of our students.   Also included are routine safety and security procedures, health information, a detailed description of student support services and behavior expectations, i.e. the Child Support Team (CST), Special Education Services, Guidance, and Literacy Support.  Also included is information regarding Discipline for Students Following Significant Behavioral Incidents.

Each year the School Site Council develops a School Improvement Plan that identifies goals to promote maximum safety and security, technology, curriculum and staff development and student achievement.  The June Summary Status Report for the 2002-03 School Improvement Plan indicates goals in these areas that were completed or will continue to be on-going in 2003-04.  Copies of this report are available in our school office.

As the year continues, you will be made aware of progress in the above areas.  If you have questions or concerns about these or any of the information included in the handbook, please do not hesitate to contact me.  Look for our weekly newsletter, Sheehan Notes, which will keep you informed on Sheehan events that speak to our school motto, Watch Us Soar.

                                                                                                Sincerely yours,

                                                                                                Joanne Hadalski
